Ros Perton Ceramics

Originally a Fine Art Graduate, after 30 years of conference and exhibition organising, I became fascinated by the history and cultural significance of clay items.  This led to learning about making with clay in adult education.  I went on to complete an MA in ceramics in 2009.

Most of the vessels are wheel-thrown, some altered whilst the clay is still plastic.

Porcelain is used for the fine smooth cool look and feel, and for its ability to respond to ambient light and colour.  Other clays are used to exploit distinctive textural properties for visual and tactile effect.

I am interested in the hierarchy of materials and what makes things precious to people.

Posy jars and small planters

Porcelain pieces for your home. The posy jars are ideal for filling with flowers and lining up down the centre of a dining table. They are also a good size to display a child's handpicked offering.

Herb pots

Dress up your kitchen! Fluid shapes in porcelain are elegant containers for supermarket herbs.

Vases and bowls

These are porcelain enhanced with gold lustre. Plaited and flattened lugs have been added to the simple shapes (in a nod to creamware).
